And while most haven’t experienced the game at the elite level, Nestor knows what it’s all about.
The former Ballarat woman was picked up by Carlton as a top-up player during the inaugural AFLW season in 2017 and debuted for the Blues in the round four fixture against Melbourne.
She was eventually delisted by the club at the end of the season and will now look for a new home through the draft.
Nestor said she was hopeful of being selected for a spot on an AFLW list.
“I would love to play again," Nestor, a former Redan footballer, told The Courier.
"Having a taste of it last year obviously gives you that experience and you want to play at the highest level that you can.
"But every draft is different. Every year is different. You are not sure what clubs are looking for.
"I've hopefully given it my best shot to put my best foot forward for selection, but you just have to wait until the day and see what happens."
Nestor joined the likes of Jenna Bruton and Sophie Alexander at this month’s AFL Women's Draft Combine.
This saw leading draft hopefuls complete a range of tests in front of club recruiters.
Bruton went to school in Daylesford and spent time playing football with Golden Point as a youngster, while Alexander, like Nestor, has a basketball background and featured for the Ballarat Rush.
Alexander played for Redan in the AFL Goldfields competition last season and is a teammate of Nestor at the Eastern Devils in VFL Women’s.
Bruton, who is now with the St Kilda Sharks, and Alexander are also hopeful of being selected by a club in Wednesday’s draft, which kicks off from 12noon.
The 2018 AFLW season is set to start in February next year.
