Ms Boult is helping to lead a new, free Live Life Get Active Program in Mount Pleasant with fitness sessions and nutritional advice available each week day.
The Medibank-funded sessions launch with the health fund giant’s Better Health Index showing one in two Mount Pleasant residents were inactive, with 55 per cent not having exercised in the past three months.
Ms Boult said that was a likely trend across the city but this was a chance to start to make a change.
“It’s a fairly simple program, nothing too difficult. If I do get people a bit fitter and healthier, I’d be happy,” Ms Boult said. “Sessions suit every (adult) age and ability and for those need, there is a chance to increase intensity.”
Cross-training and strength training will be on offer Mondays and Wednesdays with boxing on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Mount Pleasant Recreation Reserve on Morton Street. Yoga is every Friday morning.
Participants can do as many sessions as suits. There are online components.
Mount Pleasant Recreation Reserve was chosen as the primary venue on feedback in City of Ballarat’s engaging communities program, with residents wanting programs and facilities to encourage use in the space.
Live Life Get Active program focuses on health, fitness and happiness of everyday people. There are more than 90 programs, with more than 300,000 registered participants, across the nation with the goal to help 1.5 million Australians get active in mind, body and community in the next five years.
Ms Boult wanted Ballarat people to feel good about themselves and notice the changes healthier steps could make on their lives.
“I’ve always been really active – my background is in running and sprinting – but my weight can still go up and down a little,” Ms Boult said.
“I had my son, and he’s an adult now, and while I was pretty healthy through my pregnancy, when you have a baby your body is never the same. It changes shape but it was important to me to keep healthy.”
Live Life Get Active starts on Wednesday, 9.30am. Register for Free + Active at medibank.com.au/freeandactive.
