Ballarat Toy Library is hosting its third Messy Play Day to kick off National Children’s Week.
This year is pirate themed, with kids encouraged to dress up in their best outfit for sailing the seven seas.
Ballarat Toy Library president Sally Tuck said the day was about being able to help little ones have fun without limitation.
“Each year we have loads of parents enjoying themselves watching,” she said.
“It is as much a spectator sport as anything because they are seeing their little ones explore new things.”
The Highland Rascal, a big inflatable duck, is bringing about 30 of his smaller friends, which will be spread among the activities. There will also be plenty of prizes to be won.
The event is the community-run organisation’s number one fundraiser.
“We are starting to do an overhaul of what is in the library, some of our toys have been around for about 30 years and really need to retire,” Ms Tuck said.
“The funds are about bringing some of that ‘wow’ factor back.”
Messy Play Pirates takes place at Sebastopol Primary School (access from Yarrowee Street) on Saturday from 10am – 3pm.
The event is suitable for kids aged from six months to six years. Supervision is required.
Make sure to bring a spare change of clothes, plastic bags and a towel for the drive home. Pram parking, change rooms and an allergy-friendly zone are available. Cost is $5 per child.
