Paramedics and police were called in to the scene along Oak Avenue near a block of public toilets about 3.45pm.
Sergeant Chris Taylor said a group of students ran out of a parked bus across the small road before they failed to see an oncoming sedan driven by a P-plater.
“One of the boys got hit by a car driven by a young bloke,” he said.
“He has been taken to hospital with suspected leg and hip injuries.”
Sergeant Taylor said the driver was not at fault and no charges would be laid.
The boy, believed to be in his early teens, was placed on a stretcher before being conveyed to hospital.
His injuries were not serious.
