Hundreds of people are expected to attend the service for Peter Dawson at the Victoria Bowling Club, 231 Victoria Street, at 2pm on Friday.
Friday’s remembrance service follows a similar memorial service for Mr Dawson last week at his “spiritual home” of Mission Beach, in Queensland, where the tragic accident happened on October 13.
The 35-year-old was one of three killed in what has been described as the worst skydiving accident in Australia’s history.
Mr Dawson’s mother Liz said Friday’s service would be a casual affair for the beloved skydiver.
“Peter would not want those attending to be dressed formally, as that wasn’t him, or his family,” Ms Dawson said.
The informal service will be run by Mr Dawson’s family and friends as a mark of respect to the popular skydiver who had a zest for life.
Mr Dawson became a highly trained and respected skydiver, racking up thousands of jumps over the past decade.
He was also a passionate environmentalist and an advocate for people's rights.
A good friend from Bendigo introduced him to skydiving. His passion for the extreme sport was quickly ignited at Bridgewater, in northern Victoria, before he decided to move to Cairns and then to Mission Beach.
Ms Dawson described her son as “a humanistic person” who loved people.
“Peter was also a hugely deep thinker and he cared passionately about the environment and the rights of everyone.”
