A Sebastopol man will remain under police guard at hospital tonight before being interviewed tomorrow after writing off an allegedly stolen car.
The 24-year-old was driving erratically in the red Holden Commodore when he lost control and crashed along Sebastopol-Smythesdale Road about 12.10pm on Monday, forcing the closure of the road southwest of Ballarat.
Officers arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and apprehended the man, who was taken to Ballarat Base Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
However, he requires ongoing monitoring by doctors after the dramatic smash, which heavily damaged the car.
Detectives said they planned to interview the man at a police station on Wednesday.
“Police were not involved in the crash and no other parties were involved or injured,” Victoria Police spokeswoman Lauren Kells said on Monday.
Charges have yet to be laid.
