Children’s Week runs until October 29, with the theme of ‘Education has the power to transform lives’.
A family day at Ballarat Wildlife Park on Sunday will include educational talks by keepers, with free entry for children under five.
Ballarat City councillor Belinda Coates said the week fostered the development of children for the future.
“It’s a really terrific way to celebrate children and recognise their skills and achievements,” she said.
“We know that children are also our citizens and any effort we put into their early years really pays off.
“The week is a lot of fun, but also acknowledges the importance of consulting children on Ballarat’s future.”
Now in its 14th year, Children’s Week attracts more than 4000 people to events held in the region.
Ballarat Library, Sovereign Hill and YMCA are also involved in the festivities.
