The SES first received the alert about 10.20am on Saturday after a man, aged in his 30s, fell about two metres while rock climbing at Mount Zero, northwest of Ballarat.
Eventually an air ambulance helicopter was able to winch the man to safety.
He was taken to Horsham with suspected facial and arm injuries.
Meanwhile, Stawell SES duty officer Jenny Rooke said emergency crews were called out again after a schoolboy, 14, fell and hit his head along the Mt Rosea track about 2.30pm.
He was taken to Stawell Regional Health and avoided serious injury.
“Just remember if you’re in the Grampians to always have appropriate footwear and to be aware of your surroundings,” Ms Rooke said.
Ballarat City firefighters have training to conduct complex rope rescues and have responded to several operations in the Grampians this year.
It can be dangerous for rescue helicopters to operate in the rugged terrain.
Grampians crews reported 38 rescues in 2016 compared to 16 in 2015.
