The 44-year-old has been a steward in thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing, worked with a bookmaker, with gallops trainers and spent time at a stud farm.
Now he’s up for a different challenge.
Verberne has recently taken over as the manager of the Ballarat Greyhound Racing Club and is looking to take it to new heights.
“The club is going very well. I see there is a lot we can improve on in the sense of race day experience for the public,” he said.
“Through time I’m looking at improving the facilities even further, but it’s a great set-up here. We are also looking at improving the function centre. I don’t think a lot of the Ballarat public know that we are here as a function centre.”
Verberne said his recent history in greyhound racing would help in the job.
“The good thing is that I’ve been stewarding for five years so I know all the participants, I know all the rules of racing, the OHS side of it,” he said.
“The racing side of it I can sort of do in my sleep.
“I’m really excited. There’s a lot I can bring to the table, but still there is a lot of stuff I have to learn.”
The 2017 Ballarat Cup heats will be run on Saturday, December 2 and the final on Saturday, December 9.
