Alex Smith, 23, and her partner Cam Rosier, 25, flew to Queensland on Thursday to watch the Supercars, handing over the keys to family members.
But when Ms Smith’s mother arrived at the Sebastopol home near Albert Street on Saturday night she found it had been broken into and trashed, with jewellery, electronics and clothes stolen.
She immediately called police, who, upon arriving at the house on Sunday morning, discovered the thieves had returned overnight.
“They obviously used the shower because there were wet towels and they left VBs on the floor," Ms Smith said
“It’s pretty terrible, to know somebody has been through everything.”
The thieves also stole Ms Smith’s turquoise Jeep Wrangler, which was later found dumped just metres from the Dana Street police station.
