Usher joins fellow United States-based player Marvin King-Davis in re-signing with the GMHBA Miners.
This is the first pair of imports to re-sign together for Ballarat since the legendary duo of Eric Cooks and Eric Hayes in the mid-1990s.
Usher impressed this year – averaging 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists a game – persuading the Miners to reach a two-year agreement with him.
New Miners head coach Nathan Cooper-Brown said Usher was one of the best one-on-one players in the competition.
“He has an offensive arsenal that makes him one of the toughest covers for any defence.
“To his credit Davon is always willing to put the team first, which is a rare trait for someone in his position.
“That unselfishness and ability were two reasons why it was so easy to bring him back,’’ he said.
Cooper-Brown said Usher took time to get used to the FIBA brand of basketball this year, but by the end of the season he was showing what he was capable of.
“We feel we can utilise more of Davon’s ability in a variety of ways, so we look forward to tweaking the playbook to give him more opportunities next season.”
Cooper-Brown also said Usher was an exceptional ambassador for Basketball Ballarat.
Usher said he was humbled to be offered another two seasons, with the deal giving him an opportunity to showcase his talent and earn interest from the NBL.”
Usher will return to Ballarat in late February.
Peter Hooley and Sam Short, who are playing with Melbourne United in the NBL, have also re-signed for next season.
