Police allege Hector Bruno attempted to murder his 64-year-old father with a knife at a Greendale home on July 21.
The Ballarat Magistrates Court was on Thursday told defence counsel needed more time to investigate various matters.
Defence counsel requested the case be adjourned to a further committal mention.
The prosecution did not oppose the adjournment request.
Magistrate Mark Stratmann asked Bruno to stand up in the dock when he addressed him.
He told Bruno he was remanded to the Ballarat Magistrates Court for a further committal mention on December 7.
Bruno was then taken back into custody.
Bruno's father, also named Hector Bruno, was flown to The Alfred hospital with abdominal wounds after the alleged incident.
