Doug Stewart arrived at his workplace on Camp Street a little over a week ago to find his usual disabled car space had been blocked off by temporary fencing erected at the building site next to Trades Hall.
“I notified the council about it because council were supposed to relocate the space a few parks up,” Mr Stewart said.
“There is only one disabled spot in Camp Street and it was out the front of the site and I always used that because there are none in front of Trades Hall.”
The temporary fencing was erected a week ago with its location approved by City of Ballarat as part of the hoarding permit associated with the building site.
The Courier understands officers from City of Ballarat have been to the site and inspected the fencing location since its erection.
Mr Stewart said he is disappointed council have not yet provided an alternative disabled parking space for the street.
“People coming in here have nowhere to park and I require it daily,” he said.
“It’s not affecting only me, others need it too.”
Infrastructure and Environment Director at City of Ballarat, Terry Demeo, said council are in the process of relocating the disabled parking space.
“A temporary disabled park will be located approximately 30 metres north of the existing car park,” Mr Demeo said.
“Signage to reflect the temporary disabled park location is planned to be installed within the week.”
“The City of Ballarat assures residents it will continue to hold ongoing communications with the building company involved, and will monitor the situation and make appropriate adjustments if needed.”
However, Mr Stewart said the amount of traffic coming and going from Camp Street warrants more designated disabled parking spaces.
“This is council’s responsibility and there really should be more than one disabled park in Camp Street,” he said.
