Local photographer Andrew Thomas has been featured in the Australian Weather Calendar 2018 with his photo of frosty Mount Buninyong.

The photo for June, taken in 2014, shows the rays of the rising sun cutting through overnight fog.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the photo was created when a ridge of high pressure brought clear, cold and still conditions to the area the night before, allowing the ground to lose heat by radiation.

With the air above the ground cooled, and enough water vapour in the cooling air, it has condensed into tiny suspended droplets or what we know as fog.
