Mr O’Loughlin, a senior English teacher, died unexpectedly but peacefully, according to a Facebook post by the school.
He had been at Damascus for six years and in 2017 taught year 10 and 12.
In the post, it said Mr O’Loughlin taught thousands of students over his career.
There has been an outpouring of grief on the school’s social media post.
“Rest In Peace Bill. A fantastic support during my teaching placement and always up for a chat when he’d run into me in town. A true gentleman,” wrote Michael Dean.
“Such a sad time for the school community. My family is deeply saddened on hearing this. Condolences to all, especially his family,” said Annette McGregor.
