A conptemporary focus was at the core of the 10th annual Ballarat Gardens in Spring series, which sees private gardens across the region opened to the public.
Among the gardeners showcasing their hard work across the long weekend was Tracey Fraser, whose Talbot Street South property in the heart of the city boasts an enviable space filled with trees, shrubs and hedges.
Ms Fraser, who had been tending to the property for months in the lead-up to her second showcase, said it was a privilege to be able to share her space with other garden lovers.
“The garden has structure but it’s still a practical garden that works with the family and our animals,” Ms Fraser said of the space. “Garden people are the nicest people and their compliments are so lovely.”
Private properties in Mount Rowan, Millbrook, Buninyong and Scotsburn were also among the spaces gardening enthusiasts were able to catch a glimpse of.
Profits from the annual event go towards assisting the work of Friends of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens.
Event organiser Helen Todd said the showcase highlighted the quantity of inspiring home landscapes around the Ballarat region.
“It’s like the saying ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’, you don't know what is in people’s backyards,” Ms Todd said. “When I’m looking for gardens for this event I’m always surprised at what’s out there.”
