“It was like a balloon enlarging and putting pressure on my back, mainly at night.” she said.
Initial tests revealed pancreatitis and Mrs Dunne was hospitalised, but over the next two weeks her health deteriorated and, after a biopsy, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
That was almost three years ago. Surgeons removed the tumour and Mrs Dunne is now part of a drug trial which aims to improve the poor survival rate for pancreatic cancer and, most importantly, is feeling healthy and positive.
Today is World Pancreatic Cancer Day, with the Pancare Foundation demanding better awareness, funding and research for the disease.
