The Cabaret Club will open on Friday in a function room at the Gold Rush Mini Golf centre at Warrenheip.
“It has real character and is a fantastic space that hasn’t really been used in the past,” said Cabaret Club manager Dani Fry.
“It’s a valuable space for Ballarat that is well-suited to anything live … and we want to branch out in to more cabaret-style acts with comedy, burlesque, drag shows and more,” Ms Fry said.
The opening of the new venue, which can hold 150 people, follows the recent closures of Suttons House of Music and Babushka Bar.
Ms Fry conceded the Cabaret Club’s location would be a challenge, but was one she would overcome.
“It’s 5km from the CBD but we’re advertising it as one song long – from the CBD you can play a song in your car and get there before the song is over.”
Local blues band Johnny Rooster will play at the club opening at 8.30pm tonight.
