Emma Fortescue started the ‘Caps for Bax’ charity about six months ago after spending a lot of time at the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Her two-year-old son Baxter was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, chiari malformation and another rare undiagnosed syndrome about 12 months ago which has caused him numerous medical issues.
“He stops breathing by himself and his heart rate drops dangerously low and he has to wear a full body and neck brace,” Ms Fortescue said.
She started the charity, selling caps and other merchandise online, to help bring some creature comforts to families staying at the Royal Children’s Hospital.
She said she has experienced not having a few things that would have improved a stressful time at the hospital.
“Things like plates and cups and toasters for the ward, little things make life a bit easier for long term families who spend a lot of time down there,” she said.
“When there are no working microwaves, broken cutely and crockery, little things like that are home comforts and you can’t understate the power of being able to make a cuppa in that situation.”
Left Hand Lucky tattoo on Little Bridge Street will be offering pre-drawn tattoos to anyone over 18 years-of-age who walks through the door on Sunday, November 19 with all profit going to Caps for Bax.
