The Redan star has accepted an invitation to be part of Geelong’s VFL 52-strong pre-season training squad, which also features Bacchus Marsh youngster Nick Stuhldreier and Sunbury’s Josh Guthrie, who played with the Cats this year.
Horbury said he would most likely train up to the Christmas-New Year break and then assess whether to press on or commit straight out to a full-time presence with Redan.
The Henderson Medallist played 38 VFL games with North Ballarat Roosters in 2013 and 2014.
Horbury is spending the summer playing alongside Redan teammate Callum Currie with the undefeated Southern Saints in the North Territory league.
While Currie is living in the NT, Horbury remains in Ballarat and flies north each week to play.
Horbury said he was hoping to help the Saints to a premiership.
