This is one for fans of First Aid Kit, or even The Waifs.
Twin Peaks, a sweet and smoky roots duo from northern British Columbia, will be playing at the pub as part of their current tour.
The band has released two albums, both nominated for Western Canadian Music Awards. In 2015, their full length album, Trouble, won the WCMA for Roots Duo/Group Recording of the Year.
Expect dreamy melodies, mighty choruses, graceful ballads and persuasive grooves, with subtle golden age of country and classic pop all part of their all-original material.
Thursday, Michael Timcke Jazz Quartet @ Spa Bar
Timcke and band will perform a selection of music from some of the great composers and improvisers from the jazz idiom.
Saturday, Phil and Trudy Edgeley @ Spa Bar
Phil Edgeley, hard-edged blues slide trouper, nimble-fingered folk alchemist, plays his trademark Churchill Acoustic, Tim Kill Weissenborn and National Steel guitars. In the words of Jim Conway, Edgeley is a “masterful guitarist and songwriter who performs with great heart and passion”.
Friday, Pleasantville @ Blue Bean Cafe, Hepburn Springs
Featuring former Boom Crash Opera member and producer of TV scores Richard Pleasance, Pleasantville is a low-key family affair with Pleasance on guitars, bass keyboards and backing vocals, laying down a solid spread of sound over which wife Michelle applies some “smooth, seductive vocals”.
Pleasantville will play a couple of laid-back sets with a few surprise guests, dropping in. They will also play songs from their latest Cherry Flamb’e album and a few of their favourite jazz covers.
Saturday, Scott Fraser @ Blue Bean Cafe, Hepburn Springs
Something of a guitar-playing journey man, Fraser has played gigs for the Hell’s Angels in a small pub and for HeartKids at Lindsey Fox's car museum in Melbourne.
His CD, Tired Town, features originals with Damian Howard and Brendan O'Neill and Fred Sass on harp and guitar.
Sunday, Stand Up Comedy @ Blue Bean Cafe, Hepburn Springs
Finally, vale Malcolm Young, AC/DC guitarist, nothing more to be said.
