The beginning of construction on the $50 million face lift to the precinct comes almost one year after the Pellicano Group was announced as the successful bidder. The remainder of the project will begin following the completion of the car park.
Regional Development Minister Jaala Pulford said there would be some disruption to commuters while the car park was being built and asked for patience.
She said while she understood there remained some opposition to the development, the majority of the community were supportive.
“Part of the work Pellicano will be doing ongoing will be to make sure the residents are fully appraised of the detail and there will be management strategies in place to deal with the noise and dust,” Ms Pulford said.
Construction of a $5 million bus interchange is also expected to begin by mid-2018.
