One man is in hospital with multiple stab wounds after he and four friends were set upon in an early morning armed robbery in Melbourne's north.

Police have been told five men were in a black Toyota sedan when a red Holden Commodore pulled up beside them in Bendigo Crescent in Thomastown about 1.20am.
The driver of the Commodore produced a firearm and pursued the Toyota to nearby Yuong Court where the five occupants of the Toyota were told to hand over their wallets and phones.
Two passengers from the Commodore then produced a knife and assaulted the five occupants in the Toyota who ran from the scene.
Paramedics were called to an address on the corner of Barry and Edgars roads in Thomastown at 1.30am and treated one man aged in his 20s for stab wounds to the upper body.
Paramedics transferred the man to the Northern Hospital in a stable condition.
Two other men from the Toyota went to hospital with assault-related injuries.
Police are looking for a red Holden Commodore VF in relation to the Thomastown armed robbery and have urged anyone with further information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
