Keane replaces former Australian Diamond Eloise Southby who was handed the reins in September but will now take a step back in her services – opting to spend more time with family and other netball commitments.
Southby will remain at the Sovereigns as a specialists coach.
Keane was excited to take on the role in what will be his first VNL head coaching role. Having been involved in the league previously as well as boasting a strong playing record – representing Victoria’s men’s side, with six National Championships next to his name.
“I have coached in the VNL before, but this is my first time as a head coach for a championship team, so it is just really exciting,” Keane said.
Keane is eager to develop a winning culture at the Sovereigns and said building strong relationships across all three grades was key to having on-court success.
“We want to make sure there is a strong squad feeling between our three grades.”
President Bill Mundy was excited by the appointment and said Keane would bring a wealth of knowledge in order to develop the squad.
“Our focus needs to be on our younger players...then keep them and blood them in champ.” Mundy said.
