We have a pair of grey thrushes nesting under our verandah. They seem to have just started sitting on their eggs full-time. How long until the eggs hatch?

The grey thrush (grey shrike-thrush) incubates its eggs for 17 or 18 days. The chicks will then grow in the nest for about 16 days before they are ready to leave.
Both parents incubate the clutch of three eggs for about 50 minutes at a time before changeover. The female incubates at night.
Unsuccessful nesting attempts could be due to rats, cats or currawongs.
It is usual for a pair to raise one brood per season, but they will nest again in a different spot if their first attempt is unsuccessful.
Porches, verandahs and sheds are fairly common nesting sites for this bird.
