More than 80 attendees including Ripon MP Louise Staley, Hepburn Shire mayor John Cottrell and RSL members from across the region turned last week out to witness the release of a book celebrating the avenue, which will turn 100 in 2018.
The book was put together by historian Peter Rickard, who undertook the mammoth task of researching each of the soldiers represented on the avenue who fought in WWI.
Kingston Friends of the Avenue president Julie Baulch said the goal of developing a book was first envisioned when the group formed back in 1999 and Mr Rickard began researching the 286 represented soldiers and nurses in 2011.
“At the beginning it was one of our goals to archive the stories of the avenue and of the people from the-then Shire of Creswick,” Ms Baulch said.
