Michael Stanley’s stable issued a statement via Twitter on Thursday telling of the dual group 1 winner’s sad passing.
“It is with much regret and a tremendously heavy heart that I inform the racing industry of the tragic loss of our beautiful brave mare Petacular (Bonnie),” it read.
“Whilst spelling, she had a freak incident in the paddock which resulted in a shattered pastern.”
Petacular won 19 of her 26 starts for more than $450,000 in prizemoney.
The highlights were victory in the group 1 Vicbred Super Series Two-Year-Old Fillies Final and the group 1 Breeders Crown Series Three-Year-Old Fillies Final at her final career start during August of this year.
She was named the Australian Three-Year-Old Filly of the Year in 2017.
Stanley trained the horse and drove her in all but two of her races.
“Petacular was dearly loved by all involved at the Stanley Stable and will be deeply missed, particularly by Mick who shared a very special bond with her, as did her best friend RoRo (Soho Angel),” the statement read.
Petacular, who was bred by Bruce Edward, never missed a placing during a glittering career.
Five of those placings came in group 1 races.
