Qasim House, 32, is charged with seven offences including murder and possessing a firearm while prohibited.
His matter was heard at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Saturday, but Mr House did not appear.
It is alleged he shot dead his partner, who he had been in a relationship with for a couple of months, on Thursday night at the Sunshine North townhouse where they lived.
He drove the 42-year-old woman to Sunshine hospital, but she died there later that evening.
Mr House is alleged to have then stolen two cars while evading police.
A car ended up on its roof after a collision that Mr House was allegedly involved in, one of two crashes on Furlong Road, the main road between the townhouse and the hospital.
Magistrate Alan Spillane??? remanded Mr House to appear again on Thursday.
Police spent most of Friday morning processing crime scenes relating to the incident.
The victim was the mother of an adult daughter, Detective Inspector Mick Hughes said.
He also confirmed that police suspected she had been carried from an upstairs room of the townhouse, where she had been shot, to a car parked in the driveway.
