The Creswick venue closed its doors and cancelled pre-booked weddings when it declared bankruptcy in September.

Colliers International will auction the site on behalf of liquidators Sellers Muldoon Benton.

The venue has a 1000-square metre building on a 2.87-hectare property with capacity for up to 200 guests.

There are also separate function room that cater to smaller groups of between five and 50 people.

The property includes an 18-hole mini golf course, bocce courts, outdoor entertainment options and an indoor ice skating rink.

Colliers International’s Charles Kennedy said the property was an icon that offered established tourism for someone who wanted to take it to the next level.

“The quality and works of this 1000 square metre building, coupled with the idyllic countryside location with the outstanding hillside views and wonderful garden setting is exceptional,” he said.

“Someone is going to be very fortunate in acquiring this valuable asset for far less that what it could cost to construct today”.

The decision in September to close venue left devastated couples out of pocket and frantically re-booking their weddings.

One couple said the Tangled Maze’s owners had refused to pay back a $3000 deposit they had paid after their wedding was cancelled on short notice.

This was despite having a receipt for the payment and bank statement.

Another couple who had Scottish family attending the wedding had to find a new venue on the same date because flights had already been booked.

They also said a letter they received from the Tangled Maze informing them of the bankruptcy was “cold”.

Most couples were forced into a scramble to re-book their weddings at short notice.

Mr Kennedy said the property was a sought after wedding venue, particularly after the same-sex marriage survey yes vote.

“Its location on the Midland Highway close to both Ballarat and Daylesford makes it a choice location for expanding its functions capability,” he said.

“We have a full list of all the plant and equipment that comes with the purchase.

“It is an extensive list of quality equipment and all in excellent condition.

“Everything that is needed to run this business is here and you need to see the quality of the fit-out. The property has all the elements to make it a prime wedding and function venue particularly with the expected growth.”
