Predicted heavy rain has prompted emergency services to issue widespread warnings for the State with residents to prepare.
While the 100-plus millimetres expected to fall on Ballarat is spread over three days these volumes are expected to have significant threats on downstream catchments, particularly Creswick, Clunes, Skipton and Miners Rest.
Central Ballarat’s greatest threat is on the Gnarr Creek and the areas around the Yarrowee River.
The following chart shows the potential impact of rainfall in the Ballarat CBD.
The map shows many areas around Bridge Mall likely to be heavily affected, as well as further south along the Yarrowee River.
The following images indicate just how high the water can rise in central Ballarat.
By comparing past floods, it gives you some idea what we might be in for.
Residents at risk in Ballarat CBD are urged to check the SES Flood safe website on advice on how to prepare.
Below is the live rain radar, which we will keep embedded on this page.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Not walk, ride or drive through flood water;
- Keep clear of creeks and storm drains;
- Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks;
- Be alert that in areas recently affected by fires, heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads;
