It seems Santa and his helpers have already arrived in Ballarat to spread a little bit of festive cheer.
The City of Ballarat has introduced an interactive street art trail as part of this year’s Christmas celebrations.
Twelve 3D optical illusions, which are spread across town, are capturing imaginations and encouraging passersby to take out their phones for photos.
Anton Pulvirenti and Rudy Kistler from Zest Events International are the artists behind the creative trickery.
Zest Events creative producer Andi Mether said while the pair was known all over the world for their murals, the Ballarat project had been one of the highlights of the year.
“The Christmas works have been really great…. it just embraces everyone, all ages, it’s a lot of fun,” she said.
Locations include Bridge Mall, Ballarat Town Hall, Central Square, Norwich Plaza, Her Majesty’s, Unicorn Lane, Alfred Deakin Place and the Arts Academy.
“Sometimes the location inspires the idea and other times you have this fun idea and you’re looking for the right spot (to bring it to life),” Ms Mether said.
“… (For example) finding a window and having Santa abseiling from it, the works are designed to space not just the theme.
“We really want all the public to get down there, get creative with their poses and share them online – that way we can show the rest of the world what we’re doing.”
City of Ballarat will release a map of all 12 locations at a launch on Friday, with the works to be removed in January.
