The annual Christmas stall event which is Pleasant Street Primary School’s biggest fundraiser still managed to pull more than 1000 people on Friday night despite predictions the city could experience flash flooding.
Pleasant Street assistant principal Kaye Bennett said while it was “touch and go” as to whether the festival would go ahead earlier in the week, it still managed to pull a healthy crowd.
“We were really really pleased people from outside of the school community still ventured out,” Ms Bennett said. “The school made a decision to proceed and we put all the necessary safety protocols in place but in the end we almost didn’t have a single drop of rain for the event.”
While some of the Melbourne-based stallholders chose not to take the risk and pulled out, majority of the more than 100 stalls were shifted inside to avoid the elements and children were still able to enjoy the outdoor rides.
