The Bulldogs have been placed in the Central Highlands Football League fixture which was released over the weekend.
But its destiny will be in the hands of the final recommendations from AFL Goldfields which will be announced on Thursday.
CHFL president Eddy Comelli said while Smythesdale was in named in the fixture, Thursday would be the definitive call.
“They’ve been slotted into the fixture….it is a two-year fixture, so it just rolls on from last year,” Comelli said.
Smythesdale will meet later in the week to further discuss its situation.
A press conference will be held at Saxon House from 2.30pm to reveal the findings.
The fixture is simply a flipping of venues over the two-year period, meaning the rounds and opponents will largely stay the same, but the home teams will now play away in 2018. Fixture to be published online on Monday.
