Two PGA events have been booked for the Creswick course, with both to be played during January.
Perhaps the most exciting of the new tournaments is the two-day RACV Goldfields Super6.
This competition – which is based on the World Super6 Perth and is the only of its kind in Victoria – includes an 18-hole qualifying round on the Saturday before six-hole match play elimination rounds on the Sunday to determine an overall winner.
It has been booked for January 20-21.
The Super6 event is a week before the resort hosts a Legends Tour event, which is for professional golfers aged 50 and over.
The RACV Goldfields Legends Pro-Am is locked in for Sunday, January 28. It will be played the day after the completion of the $30,000 Victorian Senior Masters, which is scheduled at Midlands Golf Club.
“RACV is very excited to be working with the PGA of Australia to bring these events to the region in January 2018,” RACV Goldfields Resort manager Stephen Roberts said.
“Since RACV commenced operation of the Goldfields Resort in Creswick just over two years ago, we have significantly improved the quality of the golf course and other resort facilities.
“The course has never looked better and will continue to test the professionals from the back tees under tournament conditions.
“We have also listened to feedback from golfers in making a number of changes so that the course is more approachable for less experienced players looking for an enjoyable day out.”
The venue, when known as Novotel Forest Resort, last hosted a major tournament – the Victorian PGA Championship – in 2013 before giving up the rights.
Prizemoney for the two new events is yet to be confirmed.
