Police say an electrical fault could be the potential cause of a fire that has destroyed three quarters of a house in Greendale.
CFA Duty Officer Steve Poulter said police and fire investigators had been on scene for most of the morning.
He said the house fire occurred on Greendale-Myrniong Road near Napoleon Street in what appeared to be an unoccupied house at the time.
Meanwhile, police said the fire did not appear to be suspicious and investigations were ongoing.

Eight fire trucks have responded to a house fire in Greendale, which has been turned into a crime scene.
A CFA media spokesperson said the house fire, which is believed to be on Greendale-Myrniong Road, was called in just before 5am.
Fire trucks from Ballan, Greendale, Myrniong, Blackwood and Ballarat City fire brigades attended the scene, police are also on scene.
The CFA media spokesperson said the fire was now under control.
Moorabool Crime Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Josh Coy said there had been no injuries or damage to any other property apart from the house.
He said police investigations were ongoing and the cause of the fire was still being investigated.
