A major Wendouree intersection was almost brought to a standstill on Wednesday afternoon when a police car was involved in a crash while trying to attend an emergency.

Emergency services were called to the smash at the intersection of Creswick Road and Howitt Street just after 1pm on Wednesday.
A portion of Creswick Road was blocked off for almost an hour as tow truck drivers and police tended to the scene.
The police divisional van had been travelling north along Creswick Road before activating its lights and sirensas part of urgent duty driving.
The police vehicle was struck by a white Nissan Patrol, sustaining severe damage to the rear-left corner. The Patrol received significant damage to the front-left of the vehicle.
Police confirmed the incident was under investigation but declined to provide any further details on how the smash occurred.
Howitt Street was largely unaffected by the incident.
