From early Wednesday morning commuters were feeling the effects of the heat, with Southern Cross Station-bound services either partially or fully diverted off the tracks and onto road coaches.
Customers returning from Melbourne suffered from similar service changes due to the heat restrictions which remained in place until 8pm.
Services further along the line towards Ararat and Maryborough were also affected. On days where temperatures exceed 36 degrees the top speed of VLocity trains is slashed from 160kmh to 90kmh.
While Melbourne experienced its hottest day of the summer thus far when the temperature hit 38 degrees, regular commuters will breath a sigh of relief with no days in the high 30s expected over the next week.
