The 21-year-old won her round of 16 match against Western Australian Astra Sharma to progress to the last eight in the event.
Hives won the clash in straight sets, 6-3 6-4.
The Kingston export has already secured a place in what will be her first major tournament.
Hives booked a spot in the Australian Open women’s doubles main draw by winning the Bendigo ITF event.
She partnered with Alison Bai, from Canberra, to win the tournament.
Hives and Bai earned the wildcard as a reward for getting the highest aggregate points across back-to-back Canberra and Bendigo ITF competitions.
After her tilt at securing a women’s singles wildcard entry, Hives is likely to contest the Ballarat Open Platinum AMT between December 19-23.
The Australian Open starts on January 15.
