As a Ladies European Tour-sanctioned event, Golf NSW boss Stuart Fraser says they will look to attract some of the world's top golfers to Queanbeyan next summer, including four-time major winner Laura Davies.

NSW deputy premier John Barilaro made the announcement on Friday and said the NSW Open could also come with funding to further develop the course.

With the Canberra Classic returning to Royal Canberra in February, it could make for a bumper summer of professional golf in the region next summer.

Campbell was tempted to return to the professional scene, after she hung up the putter two years ago to start a family with fellow former pro Damon Welsford.

She now has a two-year-old son and a four-month-old daughter and while she ruled out playing in this summer's Canberra Classic, she said a return the following year was "very tempting".

"It's hard to say, probably unlikely, but you never know. Being here it is tempting, very tempting, but we'll see how things go," Campbell said of coming out of retirement.

"I wouldn't want to tee it up unless I could give some preparation into it, just for my own peace of mind.

"If I didn't play I'd certainly want to be involved in the event - two kids are pretty full-on, but you never know."

The date for the 2019 NSW Open was yet to be set, although early talk was for March that year.

If the Australian Ladies Professional Golf tour followed a similar program to this summer, then the Canberra Classic would precede the Australian Open in Adelaide, the Australian Ladies Classic at Bonville and then the NSW Open.

That run of tournaments would help lure Europe's top golfers Down Under to Queanbeyan as part of a field of more than 100 - potentially including 60 golfers from around the world.

"The bigger the name and the higher profile the tournament, and that's a win-win for NSW, it's a win-win for the club and it's a win-win for the government," Fraser said.

"Certainly players like Laura Davies, who's coming out again this summer, is a big name who has supported this country and it's women's golf really well.

"But there's a lot of younger players who are coming through from Asia and Europe, and even Australia, who are professional, but we also have a lot of good amateur women in NSW who will have the chance to pit their skills against the pros."

While Campbell backed Queanbeyan's tight fairways and "amazing" greens to provide a tough test, Barilaro said his government's commitment to regional sporting venues, through the $1.3 billion regional growth fund, could see funding made available to Queanbeyan to further develop their course.

The government announced a five-year agreement with Golf NSW on Monday to hold the NSW Open in regional NSW until at least 2022.

Barilaro said it was part of a push to use tourism and sport to bolster the regional economies.

"I'm prepared, from a state government perspective, to work with Queanbeyan Golf Club, as will Queanbeyan-Palerang Council," he said.

"We want to make sure when this is beamed across the world to 65 countries that we are able to promote this as a fantastic golf course.

"It's why we've announced it so far out so that we can plan and invest where we need to and I'm looking forward to that."
