The Bears hadn’t been at the summit of the Ballarat District Bowls Division competition since the end of round four, but climbed back there following Saturday’s victory over Creswick.
Central Wendouree shared the rink wins with the Wickers, but proved too strong across the green, winning 111-84 on home soil.
The success was the Bears’ second against Creswick this season, with the team landing an eight-shot triumph when the two met all the way back in round one.
Central Wendouree was second heading into the weekend’s matches, but jumped over the top of Ballarat, which slumped to its second defeat in succession.
The Ballarat team had been more than 20 points clear in the lead just two rounds ago, but losses to the Bears and Mt Xavier on Saturday have seen the club slide to third position at the mid-season break.
Ballarat lost by five shots on Saturday, with Mt Xavier’s win just its fourth of the campaign.
Central Wendouree is only three points clear at the top, with Ballarat East sitting in second after its clean sweep against bottom side Sebastopol at the weekend.
The Two Blues won all four rinks in a 30-shot victory on the Kookaburras’ home green.
Elsewhere on Saturday, City Oval claimed an important win at Buninyong, while Webbcona snuck home in the battle with Learmonth.
Weekend pennant now breaks until round 11 on Saturday, January 13.
