Those needing to enter or cross the central business district are urged to plan ahead and find alternate routes.
Sturt Street closures will run from Grenville to Raglan Streets until midnight.
The Doveton Street (Midland Highway) crossing of Sturt Street will be closed from 10.30am to 11.30pm.
Altered parking restrictions will start on Dawson Streets North and South from 5am.
Racing on the opening day of the championships will start at 1.30pm with the under-19 women’s criterium, which has been added to the program this year with the under-19 men’s title race at 3.30pm.
Both will race for 30 minutes plus three laps of the Sturt Street course, which runs between Lydiard and Lyons Streets.
This year’s program will also introduce a national club teams criterium of 16 laps (four per rider) and a community free cycle of the course.
Elites racing starts from 6.30pm with women in a 33-kilometre race (30 laps of the 1.1-km circuit) before the men contest 40 laps.
Time trials, including the newly added para and under-19 events, play out along the Buninyong-Mount Mercer Road on Thursday and Friday.
Warrenheip Street and streets surrounding Royal Park will be closed to all traffic from 4.30am-7pm on Thursday and 7am-6pm on Friday. Other course closures take place from 9am.
Traffic restrictions also come into play for the para road race course in Cardigan Village on Friday between 6am-6pm. Buninyong roads will be affected from Saturday 5am and Sunday 6.30am with staggered re-openings from 7pm.
