Nabil Moughnieh - formerly known as Nabil Maghnie - was facing charges from raids in May last year on his home, an associate's home and a storage facility, and now faces fresh charges of being a prohibited person possessing a firearm.

An out-of-sessions court hearing early on Thursday morning and a bail application in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday afternoon both heard officers from the anti-bikie Echo taskforce believe they found the 42-year-old's DNA on the trigger of a rifle found at his associate's home.

The rifle, with a scope and silencer, was found along with two semi-automatic pistols, an air pistol, $11,500 cash and a pill press at the associate's home, the court heard. Police seized $7000 cash, a Lamborghini and small quantities of the drugs ice and cannabis from Mr Moughnieh's Bundoora home.

Police also found a pill press at an Epping storage facility connected to Mr Moughnieh.

Detective Acting Sergeant Jarrod Dwyer told the hearings police believed Mr Moughnieh was a high-level Middle Eastern organised crime identity who had survived two shootings, including one in 2016 where he managed to drive himself to hospital despite having been shot in the face.

"Echo taskforce investigators believe given the large number of high-profile, powerful criminal figures currently feuding with Moughnieh, it heightens the risk that Moughnieh will be carrying and has access to firearms," Detective Acting Sergeant Dwyer said.

One such "deep and long-standing" feud was with Mitchell, the former Bandido. Mr Moughnieh and jailed associate Gavin Preston were investigated after Mitchell was shot outside a Brunswick gym in 2011.

Mr Moughnieh also had a falling-out with one-time friend Samson Bazi, who, the hearings were told, is the Comanchero bikie gang's state serjeant-at-arms despite Mr Bazi having publicly distanced himself from the club. The ownership of a tattoo parlour might have caused the dispute between Mr Moughnieh and Mr Bazi.

"The relationship has completely broken down," Detective Acting Sergeant Dwyer said.

Mr Moughnieh was arrested on Wednesday night and refused bail at the out-of-sessions hearing but was granted bail on Thursday, when magistrate Jonathan Klestadt was told the accused man was entitled to bail on the most recent charges.

The court also heard police could not say how strong the DNA evidence against Mr Moughnieh was, or determine how old the forensic sample on the rifle was.

Detective Acting Sergeant Dwyer alleged Mr Moughnieh was also fighting with a man who is currently before the courts over a major drug importation into Melbourne. He said Mr Moughnieh had a drug problem and the amount of drugs seized from his home were consistent with personal use.

Mr Moughnieh told the bail justice the detective's allegations were a "load of bullshit" and that he was not a drug user.

The father-of-four said he was running a transport business, that he had been compliant on bail and the new charges were not the result of a new offence.

He said he had been in trouble growing up, but was doing "everything I can ... trying to break that cycle".

Mr Klestadt granted bail on the grounds police did not have enough new evidence to suggest Mr Moughnieh remained a threat to public safety.

Mr Moughnieh is due to return to court next week.
