The city’s four teams – Sebastopol, Victoria, BMS and Webbcona – all suffered defeats in the first round of Geelong-Ballarat Premier Bowls for 2018.
The Kookaburras were unable to use a home green advantage to beat Lara, with the visitors prevailing by 16 shots, while the Vics were unsuccessful in their trip to Queenscliff, losing 122-82.
Ballarat Memorial Sports was thumped by Ocean Grove and Webbcona was upset by lowly Eastern Park.
In the weekend’s other game, Bareena kept its place at the top of the ladder with victory over bottom side City of Geelong.
