Cameron Hay was arrested on December 1 at a Mount Pleasant property after police allegedly located a large quantity of the drug ice hidden under a vehicle's bonnet, which was parked outside the property.
A loaded handgun was allegedly located in an internal panel in the rear of the vehicle.
Police allege Hay was one of four people who travelled to Melbourne on November 30 to purchase the ice.
He was bailed at the Ballarat Magistrates Court on December 15 with conditions, including he live at a static address 40 minutes outside Ballarat.
But his lawyer, David Tamanika, told the court on Wednesday his client wanted to live at his Mount Pleasant unit, near the property he was arrested in December.
The court was told one woman, who had not been charged, lived at the house where Hay was arrested.
His co-accused, Ruby Davoren and Anthony Scott are in custody.
Mr Tamanika said the address would assist Hay in attending appointments in Ballarat.
He said Hay was on CISP as part of his bail and saw a doctor on a regular basis.
The prosecution opposed the application to vary bail.
Magistrate Gregory Robinson said he would need to hear from the informant, who was unavailable on Wednesday morning, before deciding on the application.
The hearing was adjourned to January 24.
Hay remains on bail.
