The former arts and culture writer for the Melbourne Herald and Sun and London Daily Mirror newspapers in the 1950s and 1960s is now 88 and recovering from serious illness. To aid in her recovery she bought a high-quality leather chair to relax in, but found it uncomfortable for her slight frame. Rather than return it, she has decided to donate the chair to someone else in need.

Born in Melbourne in 1930, Dorian Macdonald also worked in the Russian department at Monash University in the 1970s and 1980s as a linguist. Fluent in Russian, the language fed her joy in opera and poetry.
Beguiled by Ballarat’s heritage architecture, Dorian moved here and now lives in Sebastopol. “Life goes on and something happens every day,” she says happily.
