The Ballarat Rowing Association regatta 2000m trials form part of the state selection process.
Fifty-eight boats will go against the clock at 30-second intervals from 8am.
Regatta races will begin with single scull heats at 9.30am.
Some 81 events have been programmed, made up of 243 entries.
There will be 342 rowers occupying more 600 seats.
The BRA’s Rick Blanchfield said the regatta would provide a launching pad to another big Ballarat rowing season.
Ballarat City and Wendouree Ballarat clubs will be represented, as will Ballarat High School and Damascus College.
Saturday’s event leads into the Wendouree Ballarat Rowing Club regatta, which is already attracting entries, on February 3-4.
The state championships will be in Ballarat on March 3-4.
