Residents watched in shock as a car suddenly burst into flames at Mount Helen on Thursday evening, blanketing streets with thick layers of smoke.

Witness Ryan Fullerton said he heard a loud bang when the vehicle’s fuel tank exploded on Boak Avenue about 7.15pm.
“The car had gone past a couple of minutes earlier and sounded really sick, you could smell it,” he said.
“I then walked out and saw the driver watching it burn, he had tried to pull out some belongings.
“The firefighters nailed it, they were here in less than five minutes.”
Five CFA trucks from Sebastopol, Buninyong and Ballart City worked to extinguish the blaze, which was deemed non-suspicious.
The driver avoided any injuries.
