Firefighters were dispatched to the scene near Cecile Court in Ballarat East about 8.30pm on Tuesday, finding a blaze had started along a creek bed.
Trucks from Ballarat City and Ballarat stations managed to extinguish the fire within minutes after arriving on scene.
Police attended and said on Wednesday they were looking into whether the blaze was suspicious.
The incident comes just days after two boys, aged 13 and 15, were cautioned by police after deliberating lighting a fire on Spencer Street in Canadian on Saturday evening.
The boys were also referred to the CFA’s Juvenile Fire Awareness and Intervention Program, or JFAIP, which is aimed at children who have engaged in fire lighting or are considered to be at risk of this behaviour.
CFA fire crews are on high alert before temperatures spike into the 30s from Thursday.
