Now the vice president of the Care Leavers Australasia Network, in 2006 Mr Golding penned a book titled ‘An Orphan's Escape: Memories of a Lost Childhood’, detailing his time in the infamous orphanage and the abuse suffered as well as his eventual reunion with his parents.
He has gone onto become a tireless advocate for those who grew up outside of their families.
“Frank spent 10 years living in the Ballarat Orphanage as a child, had three foster ‘mothers’, and lived in two other institutions, enduring abuse, mistreatment and criminal neglect,” CLAN chief executive Leonie Sheedy said. “As an adult, Frank was determined to rise above the low expectations of others and turned his life around through education, becoming an accomplished educator and academic, published author and Honorary Research Fellow at Federation University.“
