Police say they have been unable to locate the man who left the scene in another boat.
Witnesses told police after the explosion they saw a man leap from the burning boat into the water, before he climbed into a second boat, which was last seen heading towards Sorrento.
Dramatic video footage captured of the incident shows thick, black smoke billowing into the air as orange flames enveloped the boat.
The fire was extinguished and the boat was later towed to the Blairgowrie Yacht Club.
The exact circumstances surrounding the explosion are still being investigated.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
